In 1991, Rajinikanth's blockbuster film 'Thalapathi,' directed by Mani Ratnam, starred Mammootty alongside him. Their on-screen chemistry was widely acclaimed, and their real-life friendship is admired by fans.
ETimes has learned exclusively that Nelson Dilipkumar initially approached Mammootty for a role in 'Jailer,' but due to prior commitments, Mammootty couldn't be a part of the film. Nelson wanted him to play the role eventually portrayed by Malayalam actor Vinayakan.
Interestingly, Rajinikanth also hinted at this during the audio launch of 'Jailer' without mentioning the actor's name.
'Jailer' is an action entertainer featuring Rajnikanth, Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, Shiva Rajkumar, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, and Yogi Babu in lead roles. Anirudh Ravichander composed the music, and the film is set to release in theaters on August 10.
