We've all seen how popular Sai Dharam Tej's Virupaksha was. The audience was so captivated by the horror-thriller that some of its eerie sequences haunted them for several days after they saw it in theatres.
After the film's completion, director Karthik Varma made a significant disclosure about who the real and intended antagonist of Virupaksha was. For Virupaksha, Karthik wrote the script, but his idol Sukumar wrote the screenplay and contributed other ideas that elevated the narrative to a new level. The antagonist in Karthik's tale was anchor Shyamala rather than Samyuktha Menon.
Karthik was persuaded by Sukumar to assign Samyuktha the part of the villain instead of Shyamala. According to reports, Sukumar informed Karthik that changing the entire conclusion to make Shyamala a hero would have little effect on the audience.
Samyuktha was cast in the villain role after Karthik and Sukumar rewrote the plot to accommodate her, which ultimately did wonders at the box office. Virupaksha, which is now engrossing viewers on Netflix, managed to gross Rs 100 crore.
